Texas Youth Hunting Program

bobcat hunting

The TYHP provides a chance to meet new hunters while enjoying a recreational activity. TYHP hunts on Saturdays, unlike other hunting programs. This gives hunters more time for bonding and conversation. TYHP puts a lot of emphasis on the mentoring and coaching of young hunters. Hunts for youth take place on private property. Adults supervise the hunts.

TYHP is the gold standard of the country

Since its inception, the TYHP model is a winner. While TYHP focuses mainly on whitetail deer hunts, landowners let young hunters pursue other species. You can hunt in stationary blinds or archery. Participants can also choose between pursuing everyday species and those that are rare or exclusive. The first TYHP hunt involved a pronghorn hunt, for which 10 landowners donated permits.

TYHP's adult mentored shooting program is now available. This program targets mature hunters, and has a proven track-record of changing lives. Despite the fact that hunting license sales have declined dramatically over recent years, and many hunting advocacy groups are trying ban hunting altogether, TYHP has never lost sight of its mission and vision. Many people have lost their connection with nature as a result of technology and urbanization.

Adult supervision is required.

Participation in Texas' youth hunting program requires that you are accompanied over 16 years of age by an adult. For you to hunt in Texas, an adult license is required. A hunter safety training course is also required. After you have completed a course in hunting safety, you will need a certificate. You, as a legal guardian or parent, must be licensed to hunt small-game in Texas. You will be subject to the same regulations as an adult guardian or a family member of the youth. If you are bringing non-resident youths from other states, you will need to get a Texas youth resident license.
